Before the days of online publishing, a manuscript would be published in a journal, and then
letters to the editor would appear following that publication, often with responses from the

The current scenario does not follow this timeline. The original manuscript of ours, reporting our vitamin E chemotherapy neuropathy prevention trial, was published online on October 9, 2010 [1]. A Letter to the Editor was written by Drs. Argyriou and Kalofonos which was received by the editors on October 21, 2010 [2]. It was published on January 14, 2011, and subsequently published in print in May 2011.
