To the Editor: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) treatment consists of perma-nently implanted
electrodes that deliver electrical pulses to a target brain region. DBS of the nucleus
accumbens shows encouraging results as treatment for certain therapyresistant psychiatric
disorders (1, 2) and has been suggested for therapy-resistant addiction (3). Heroin addiction
