METHODS The incidence of patients entering chronic dialysis or renal transplantation
programs in Southeastern Michigan was determined for the period 1 January 1973 to 31
December 1975. The region studied is composed of the following counties: Livingston,
Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, St. Clair, Wayne and Washtenaw. The City of Detroit is located
in Wayne County. Wayne County and adjacent areas are heavily populated. The outlying
