We reported recently that the gene that encodes tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), the rate-limiting
enzyme in the biosynthesis of catecholamines, is regulated by hypoxia in the dopaminergic
cells of the mammalian carotid body (Czyzyk-Krzeska, MF, Bayliss, DA, Lawson, EE &
